‘Trip’ is a noun.
You can either go on a trip, or take a trip.
We use ‘trip’ when we speak about a short visit, or a holiday.
My family and I went on a trip to London for a few days.
How was your trip to France?
The business trip turned out to be a success.
My trip to South Korea was amazing.

‘Travel’ is a verb.
We use this verb to speak about going places.
My cousin has travelled to over 25 different countries.
Nowadays, it’s super easy to travel by plane.
I don’t really like to travel.
One day, humans might be able to travel at the speed of light.
COMMON MISTAKE:
Remember, ‘travel’ is a verb, and ‘trip’ is noun.
I had a really nice travel.
☑I had a really nice trip.
The travel was really expensive.
☑The trip was really expensive.
‘Travel’ can also be a noun.
We use this noun to speak about the act of travelling.
Travel is one of the best ways to open your mind.
I want a job which involves a lot of travel.
All travel is paid for by the company.
‘Travels’ (with an ‘s’) is also a noun.
It’s a noun used mainly for exploration and long journeys.
He documented his travels through the Amazon jungle in a diary.
The pilgrim returned and told tales of his travels throughout the Middle East.
‘Journey’ is a noun.
It’s the time from your departure to your destination.
The plane journey from London to Taipei is nine hours. (It’s nine hours from A → B.)
My journey to Manchester was terrible. There was so much traffic. (It was terrible from A → B.)
‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ is my favourite book. (The characters go from A → B.)
Having WiFi definitely makes a journey seem shorter.
Most people go to work every day. There’s a specific word for that:
a commute
A commute (noun) is the journey from your home to your job. You can commute (verb) by any form of transportation.
My commute to work is really beautiful. I pass several parks.
I can’t believe it, my boyfriend commutes from London to Bristol every day! That’s a two hour journey!
I work from home on Mondays so I don’t need to commute to work on that day.
