It’s about time = Finally something has happened. I’ve been waiting for a long time.
We use this phrase when we want to express that we have been waiting for something to happen for a long time. Sometimes, we are a bit annoyed.

A: Can you believe it? My 35-year-old son has finally left home.
B: Wow, it’s about time. What made him move out?
(Finally, my adult son has left my house.)
Postman: Good morning! Here is your delivery. Can you please sign here…
Agatha: It’s about time! I’ve been waiting for this thing for weeks!
(Finally my parcel has arrived.)
Remember, we can also use this phrase when we are annoyed.
Receptionist: Mrs. Preston, Dr. Jackson will see you now in room 4.
Mrs. Preston: It’s about time! Do you have any idea how long I’ve been waiting? My appointment was scheduled for 12, and it’s already 12:45!
(Mrs. Preston is annoyed because she has been waiting to see the doctor for a long time.)
