Hi everyone! Today I have a really simple essential everyday phrase for you: Take your pick. This great phrase will make your English sound natural, and your conversations more fluent! This is a very quick lesson with an explanation of the phrase followed by six example sentences to enhance your understanding. I’ve also included a short video lesson for any visual learners. We use ‘take your pick‘ when we want to tell someone, that they can choose from a selection

Examples:

 

Son: What’s for dinner tonight?
Mum: Well we can have spaghetti or chicken nuggets. Take your pick!

 

Teacher: Okay class, you can either give me your homework tomorrow, or next week. If you give it to me next week, you lose 10 points. It’s your choice, take your pick.

 

Customer: I’m looking for a good mystery novel, something really gripping.
Bookseller: We have the latest from Agatha Christie and a new hit by Tana French. Take your pick, both are fantastic!

 

Car rental agent: For your weekend trip, we have a sedan or a convertible available.
Customer: Which would you recommend?
Car rental agent: Both are great choices—take your pick based on your preference for comfort or style!

 

Host: Alright, for the next game, we have Monopoly or Scrabble.
Guest: Hmm, I’m not sure which one I prefer.
Host: No worries, take your pick! Either way, it’s going to be fun.

 

Customer: I’m looking to brighten up my balcony with some flowers. What do you suggest?
Clerk: We have petunias and marigolds in full bloom. Take your pick; both will add wonderful color.
